space dogs

The true story of Russian stray dogs, Strelka and Belka, lifts off in this historical comedy-drama chronicling the Space Race during the Cold War. From living rough on the streets of Moscow to becoming celestial celebrities after their moon-walkies, the pair become the first cosmonauts to reach outer space, orbit Earth and return alive, succeeding over their American primate rivals. Through a medley of historical vignettes, comic and contemporary scenes, the dog-eat-dog world of 1960s politics and science and the private battles between the era’s global superpowers, are realised in this tale of survival, sacrifice and sausages.
